On April 1st 2015 the care certificate standards were introduced for all new starters in Care and Health settings. The new standards replace the common induction standards and are as follows:
- Understand your role.
- Your personal development.
- Duty of care.
- Equality and Diversity.
- Work in a Person Centred Way.
- Privacy and Dignity.
- Fluids and Nutrition.
- Awareness of Mental Health, Dementia and Learning Disabilities.
- Safeguarding Adults.
- Safeguarding Children.
- Basic Life Support.
- Health and Safety.
- Handling Information.
- Infection Prevention and Control.
All new starters will need to complete the care certificate standards within twelve weeks of starting work and during this time will need to be closely supervised at work.
The aim of the care certificate standards is to ensure the learner builds a firm foundation of knowledge and skills that they can build on throughout their career.
Redcrier have put together Care Certificate Standards Resource to support completion of the care certificate.
Our resources are as follows:
• Guidance for the care certificate workplace assessor.
• Mapping the Redcrier manuals to the knowledge criteria.
• Assessment sheet.
• Care certificate knowledge criteria workbook.
• Care certificate criteria record.
• Care certificate training matrix.
• Personal development plan.
“The Care certificate resources developed by Redcrier Training Solutions addresses the skills and knowledge required to provide care for individuals with learning disabilities and complex health needs. The carefully crafted documentation has allowed us to ensure staff receive a comprehensive Induction program, the end of which sees them achieving a portfolio evidencing their competence and knowledge of the 15 standards required to achieve the Care Certificate. Special attention has also been taken to provide information for the staff undertaking the assessment of the Care Certificate and this has been invaluable”.
